Happy New Day!
This year I decided that December first would be my January first. I simply didn't want to wait a whole month to set new goals and to get on with the new year. Then I realized that December first is just as arbitrary as January first because it all comes down to a state of mind.
Each year there's those that embark on new resolutions and quit a few weeks or months in and there are others that see theirs goals through (those rare few). If you drill down on those that actually stick to their goals, you will find that these folks tend to set shorter, more attainable goals throughout the year. But it's even more than goal setting. Successful individuals understand the value of maximizing time or better yet making time work for them.
In Los Angeles I can tell you first hand that in the final weeks of December the city turns into a ghost town. Freeways are magically uncluttered, streets are empty and the transplants are away visiting family. During these times the masses relax, enjoy some downtime, rest, recharge and wait in anticipation for the new year to start. (Disclaimer: there is nothing wrong with relaxing and enjoying some downtime).
Meanwhile, those with the killer instinct are diligently working on their plans for global domination. They are taking advantage of the limited traffic to get in the office just a little bit earlier. They are enjoying less distractions at the office since everyone is out. They are tracking their daily, weekly, quarterly, annual goals (not just annual). They've already got the jump on the day and are continuing to make progress because they understand that each day is new year's day and more importantly that new year's day is not a day but a mindset.
Today is the first day of the rest of your life, make it the most powerful one yet!
