Healthy Dose of Detachment
Many business owners/entrepreneurs get so wrapped up in what they do that it becomes who they are. If the business is up or down it then becomes reflection of who they are as a person. Note: A human is not defined by how well their business does. A good way to approach your business is with a healthy dose of detachment. This way you can view your business objectively; as a third party. If you were the consultant for your business, vs the owner-operator how would your day to day choices and decisions change? If the success of the business wasn't a complete reflection of you as a person or your status in society, how would your decisions change? The truth of the matter is that there are factors that will affect your business that are outside of your control (the economy, employees, technological disruptions, etc). If you let things that are outside of your control affect you, you then become out of control. Remember, your business is not you. It is a thing that you do, own and profit from so that you can do more of what makes you - YOU.
