I recently stumbled upon a documentary called American Street Kid (produced in 2016 by Michael Leoni). The documentary covers the epidemic of the two-million+ homeless kids under 18 in the U.S. It’s a heavy film and one worth watching.
The director demonstrated the power that a single, selfless person, who actually cares, can have on a small community. As he got deeper into the project, he earned more and more trust and eventually got to the point where he was able to help a handful of these kids in a way that no one was offering.
A few personal takeaways:
We can’t rely on someone else to do good first. When there’s an opportunity to help someone, seize it.
We must all seek to understand first - “Judge not lest ye be judged”.
Small gestures matter. Not every act of kindness needs to be grandiose.
Helping others isn’t always a convenient affair.
Do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.
“The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.” - Samuel Johnson
May you have an abundance of opportunities to be completely selfless this week.
