Lines of Communication
I ordered a burger at the airport the other day. I saw a burger sitting on the counter for 25 mins (and hoped it wasn’t mine). When I finally asked where my order was, it was confirmed that the once appetizing burger was indeed mine. This caused arguing amongst the 5 cooks, 2 servers and 1 bartender as to whose job it was to bring me the burger. To add insult to injury the restaurant required me to place my order on an iPad, which didn’t add any efficiency.
We often overlook how many individuals are required to produce a result i.e. Sales Rep → Billing Team → Account Manager → Production Team (designer, copywriter, editor) → Client’s team, etc. It’s not hard to see why some things tend to ”slip through the cracks”.
Recommendation - use only the amount of communication necessary to produce the desired outcome in the most effective and efficient manner possible.
