Hit By A Bus!
Do you have a B Plan? No, not a business plan. I’m talking about a BUS plan… as in what happens if you get hit by a bus?
Think about it for a moment and ask…
Who would take over?
How will payroll be met?
What will insurance cover?
How is your stock transferred?
Where are all the passwords!?!
Let’s be honest, it’s bad enough trying to cover ground when an employee quits, but when the team captain doesn’t show up, the world falls apart quickly.
You can even take this exercise a step further and have a bus plan for each stakeholder in the c-suite and keep working your way down the ladder until you feel you can sleep at night.
I believe one of the most ethical things you can do as a leader is have a Bus Plan in place. Call it a contingency plan, call it a succession plan, but whatever you do don’t push it off or it will become an oh $#!7 plan
