The Measure of Success
Every year I hunker down and go through a personal “annual review”. You know the drill… dollars, cents, time, quantification…
This year I was wrestling with a holiday stomach flu and struggled to conduct my typical thorough review. As I laid on the deathbed for 4 days I realized that what I had really accomplished this year; the things that were of tremendous value were not the things I put on my “Goals List”.
I decided I’d switch up my measure of success this year by how many people I positively impact. How much “Entrepreneurial Suffering” can I put an end to? How many isolated CEO’s can I bring down from their Ivory Towers? How many dreamers can I encourage? How much wisdom can I impart? How many bridges can I build?
I believe this to be the appropriate business/life strategy for the new year.
One caveat however is that this can only be accomplished if I 100% commit to being the full authentic version of myself. No layers, no walls, no hidden agendas… just the guy doing his part to raise the tide.
Hopefully when it’s time to conduct my annual review (sans stomach flu), I’ll see impacted lives first and checked boxes second.
