Time Mastery
This past month inside of the EntrePowerment community we have been going through a Time Blocking exercise which has been very revealing to me. I’ve always considered myself a bit maniacal with my calendar, however, everytime I go through an exercise like this I learn more about myself, how to be productive, where I’m letting time slip, how much time I’m actually spending on various activities/projects and where true quality time is spent.
Here’s some of my notes from the past month while going through this exercise:
1% daily improvement can lead to 37x Improvement by the end of the year
Set yourself up for small wins - these are the bricks that build the wall of success
Protect your time blocks at all costs
Do more of what works
Manage your energy as well as your time.
Make it easy and natural to complete your tasks
23 minutes - the amount of time it takes to regain focus. Block out the distractions
Focus on one task at a time - Monotasking over multitasking.
Pomodoro Technique - 25 mins on, 5 mins off.
Change up the scenery - this actually releases dopamine
Nothing will ever be perfect. Keep it moving. Don’t get stuck or hung up.
Set specific time to check emails, texts, chats, VMs, DMs, social, etc.
Stop and smell the roses
Go old skool - use a physical clock or watch (further eliminate doom scrolling)
Use technology - do not be used by technology
Get organized - your desk, your tasks, your mind. “Behavior is a function of a person in their environment” - Kurt Lewin
Always apply Parkinson’s Law
Run your tasks through the Eisenhower Matrix
Time is all we have and it’s in limited supply. Become the master not the slave of your own schedule.
Leverage time into an asset that works for not against you.
Time block an entire week Sunday to Saturday from the time you wake up til you go to sleep. This simple exercise is extremely revealing.
Poll Results: The results are in from last week’s survey:
58% of voters said they will be missed when they’re gone.
I am conducting a survey of 100 CEO’s on their toughest challenges and biggest opportunities in 2024. If you’re the CEO of your organization and are willing to participate in a 10 minute interview, book a call with me here.
Thanks to my pal Leo Simpson II for having a recent discussion with me on “How to Write a Book”.
