The Intentional Competitive Edge
When my twin boys were very young they had equal strength. It was always funny to watch them wrestle because neither had the upper hand.
We often approach competition the same way and view competitors as equals. Is there a difference between one dentist and another? What about one financial advisor vs another? If we take the view that we’re offering the “same thing”, we’ll overlook our uniqueness in the marketplace completely and we’ll ended up being twins locked in an arm wrestle.
I would argue that it’s the experience we provide while solving the problem that makes the biggest difference… It can be our super power.
Think about it… why do homemade cookies usually taste better than store bought? They’re both cookies.
Why do we consistently visit one coffee shop over another? They both serve coffee and are most like similar distances from each other with very similar prices. So what is it? Whatever that thing is, to you the customer, it’s their competitive edge.
Could it be that our competitive advantage is rooted in love, care and intentionality for our product and our customer? I say we all give it a try and find out.
